What is mesotherapy? Mesotherapy is a revolutionary new
aesthetic treatment that functions as a no “downtime”
alternative to traditional cosmetic body shaping procedures.
This medical technique was developed in 1952 by Dr. Michel
Pistor, a French physician. The procedure is very popular
in France, which has over 15,000 mesotherapy practitioners.
It has rapidly spread from France to Europe and South America
and now to the United States. The technique involves a small
amount of medication and anesthetic, which is injected into
the fat and connective tissue of the skin (called the mesoderm)
and is used to treat many cosmetic conditions, including
the spot reduction of fat and cellulite. A series of treatments
(4 to 16) are given, spaced 2 weeks apart. The results are
considered permanent as long as the patient adheres to a
proper nutrition and exercise regimen. Occasional touch
ups may be required.
What are the benefits of mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy can be used to improve
the appearance of sagging skin, cellulite and for fat
reduction.
Spot reduction and contouring areas
of fat around locations such as love handles, thighs,
knees, double chins, eye fat pads and saddle bags can
be achieved.
Side effects and down time are minimal as compared to more invasive surgical treatments.
Tightening and toning of the area
treated occurs with the return of skin elasticity created
by the enhanced production of collagen and elastin.
Normal activities may be resumed following
a mesotherapy treatment. Some mild discomfort at the injection
sites (for 24-48 hours) and slight bruising may occur.
